Who can apply
- Undergraduates in their second year or above, including the final year, at the time of applying, who have not previously held the same bursary. The 2026 round required students to be registered at a UK institution for the majority of their degree, and allowed overseas students to apply where the host institute is in their own home country and they have the right to live and work there; visa requirements are the student's responsibility. Students do not need to be BSPP members to apply, and successful applicants are given a year's membership. The supervisor, not the student, carries the membership requirement. The 2027 eligibility wording had not been republished when this record was written, so check the 2027 student information page when it appears on 1 March 2027.
Stage dates
Supervisor stage, 11 January to 14 February 2027. Supervisors, who must be BSPP members, submit the projects. Nothing exists for a student to apply to unless a supervisor has done this, so find a supervisor before mid-February.14 February 2027
Student stage, 1 March to 11 April 2027. Students choose two of the listed projects, marking a first and second choice, and submit a CV, an academic transcript, a 500-word statement and the contact details of an academic referee who is not the supervisor. The reference must arrive before the closing date or the application is not considered.11 April 2027
