Who can apply
- You apply as a pair: a PhD student and their faculty PhD advisor. The student must be enrolled and in good academic standing in a biological or biomedical PhD or dual-degree PhD programme at an HHMI-eligible institution, and be in the second or third year of that programme as of 27 October 2026. US citizens, US permanent residents, people granted temporary permission to stay in the US, and international students eligible to study at and receive funding from their graduate institution are all eligible. Each applicant also names one additional reference.
Stage dates
Applications opened 1 September 2026 at 09:00 ET through HHMI's Application and Review Channel. Award notification is in summer 2027 and fellowship terms begin 1 September 2027.27 October 2026
