Using first-principles (density functional theory) calculations, this study evaluates a C2O monolayer as a nanodevice for detecting the four DNA bases. It examines how each base adsorbs onto the material and how that changes the electronic transport — the signal a sequencing device would read. It adds to the search for fast, low-cost DNA sequencing built on 2D materials.
