For India, USIEF publishes the benefits per fellowship, which include J-1 visa support, a monthly stipend, accident and sickness cover, round-trip economy airfare and modest affiliation fees. In India, central and state government employees are barred, but researchers from CSIR, ICAR, ICGEB, DRDO, ISRO, ICMR and DBT institutions, DST laboratories, BARC, IISc and the IITs are eligible.

For India specifically, the 2027-28 Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral and Postdoctoral fellowships closed on 1 and 15 July 2026, so the next Indian cycle is expected to open around February 2027. Applicants elsewhere must check their own commission.See the official page
