Who can apply

  • Open to German and non-German early-career researchers who hold a completed university degree and have been admitted to a doctorate at a state or state-recognised university in Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom or an EU country. A doctorate carried out entirely abroad is only funded if the applicant takes active, regular part in one of the foundation's German or overseas regional groups. Selection weighs academic strength together with social engagement and a willingness to take part in the foundation's events and regional-group life, which is an explicit expectation of scholarship holders, not an optional extra. Applicants send documents through the foundation's own portal; certified copies are not required, and once submitted an application cannot be changed or added to.
