Open to US citizens and residents working anywhere in the world; a foreign applicant must either be based at a US institution or plan to carry out the work in the United States. The proposed work should be dissertation directed. Your academic advisor must write one of the two letters of recommendation, and those letters are due 13 November, three days BEFORE the application itself. Previous recipients may reapply only after two years, and preference goes to applicants who have not held the award. Archival or museum-based projects are normally not considered.
