Who can apply
- There is no citizenship bar, but there is a location bar, and the difference decides whether this is reachable from outside Canada. The default route requires you to be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident holding a valid RAMQ card at the competition deadline. An applicant who is neither is still eligible to apply, provided they submit proof of admission to a programme of study at a Quebec university or a consent form from their research supervisor. Those applicants must carry out their studies in Quebec and cannot use the scholarship for a cotutelle with a university outside Quebec. The Regular component is open to applicants who hold or expect an undergraduate degree and who will undertake or continue a thesis-based master's research programme in an FRQ area. You must have been enrolled in a master's programme for no more than three full-time semesters before 1 May 2027. Direct-entry and fast-tracked doctoral students apply to the doctoral competition instead. Applicants may submit to only one of the FRQ training award programmes (B1, B1M, B1DP, B2, B2M, B2DP, B3, B5) in a given year, so choose before you start. There is no application fee.
