Who can apply: You must already hold admission to a doctoral programme at a state or state-recognised university. German candidates may be admitted in Germany, another EU country or Switzerland; foreign nationals must be admitted at a German university, or be in Germany for a research stay forming part of a doctorate registered… What is funded: EUR 1,650 per month for doctoral candidates, largely independent of income, plus a research-cost allowance of EUR 100 per month and a possible contribution to health insurance. Who can apply

• You must already hold admission to a doctoral programme at a state or state-recognised university. German candidates may be admitted in Germany, another EU country or Switzerland; foreign nationals must be admitted at a German university, or be in Germany for a research stay forming part of a doctorate registered abroad, with supervision by a university lecturer in Germany. Required in every case: excellent academic record, social commitment in the spirit of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung, and German at B2 level with proof, even if the dissertation is written in English. Medical disciplines are excluded. No completion scholarships are awarded. Dual funding from other public sources is not permitted, and earlier doctoral funding is deducted from the three-year maximum. International applicants must not have been in Germany for more than 15 months at the time of application unless they had already studied or begun the doctorate there.
