Who can apply

  • Open to both domestic and international students, but only to those already enrolled at a New Zealand university: the conditions document describes the programme as being for current full-time enrolled international and domestic university students, so the restriction is where you study, not your nationality. You must be enrolled full-time at any New Zealand university in an undergraduate, honours, or Part 1 of a master's degree before undertaking any research, and you must have completed at least two years of your undergraduate degree. Students currently enrolled in a PhD or a master's by thesis at the time of application are not eligible, and you cannot be studying at any university during the Trimester 3 period in which the scholarship runs. If you are enrolled at another New Zealand university you must additionally apply for admission to Victoria University of Wellington through the Puaha portal before requesting project access. Selection is on academic merit, project-specific competencies and fit with the supervisor or team.

Stage dates

READ THIS BEFORE THE DEADLINE ABOVE. You cannot see the project list, and therefore cannot apply, until you email [email protected] with your full legal name and student ID. The university says access cannot be guaranteed after 28 August and that it will not accept requests for project access after 1 September. Students enrolled at another New Zealand university must also submit an admission application through the Puaha portal by then. The university prints NO year against either of those clauses, on the page or in the conditions PDF, so no date is stored against this stage, but it is the step that actually decides whether the September deadline is reachable for you.See the official page

Online applications open 2 September through InPlace; the page prints no year.See the official page
