Who can apply
- You must be at most 40 years old on 31 December of the application year, hold an MSc or higher degree, be a national of a least developed country as listed by the United Nations, and hold a research position in a least developed country. Research proposals must fall under sustainability science and support the UN Sustainable Development Goals; women scientists are particularly encouraged. Two signed reference letters are required. Applicants may apply for only one programme per calendar year across the TWAS and OWSD portfolio and cannot then visit another institution that year. No application fee is charged.
Stage dates
Deadline for receipt of applications, including two signed reference letters sent to TWAS by referees familiar with the applicant's work. TWAS advises starting well in advance because unsigned letters are not accepted.31 October 2026
