Who can apply

• You must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada or a Protected Person under subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act as of the institution's application deadline, so this scheme is closed to international students. You must be registered, full time or part time, in a bachelor's degree programme at an eligible Canadian institution, hold a satisfactory cumulative average (normally at least B-), not be enrolled in an undergraduate professional degree programme in the health sciences such as MD, DDS or BScN (that bar does not apply to CIHR USRAs), and never have been registered in a graduate programme in the same field of study. CIHR and SSHRC USRAs are currently available only to students who self-identify as Black. You may hold one USRA per fiscal year and a maximum of three across your undergraduate career. There is no application fee.
