Who can apply

  • Applicants from outside the United States can apply only in narrow circumstances: CSHL states that foreign students are eligible only if they are already enrolled full time at a US college or university on a student visa, or, in limited cases, if their foreign university has a pre-existing agreement with CSHL. The same page separately says students of any nationality are eligible, and the enrolment rule is the binding one, so check with CSHL before investing time if you are studying outside the US. NSF-supported places within the programme are restricted further, to US citizens and permanent residents; non-US applicants are funded through the non-restricted URP fellowships instead. Beyond that, current sophomores and juniors, or the equivalent, are eligible, and you must be returning to an undergraduate degree programme after the summer. First-year undergraduates are considered only in exceptional cases with prior independent research experience. Prior lab experience helps but is not required. You submit an online application form with a personal statement, transcripts and recommendation letters; posted, faxed and emailed applications are not accepted.

Stage dates

Completed application and both recommendation letters must be in by January 15, 23:59 Pacific. Letters are not accepted after the deadline, so the referee date and the applicant date are the same date. CSHL prints no year.See the official page

Dates come from the funder's page for this round. When a round closes, the next round's dates replace these once the funder publishes them.
