Who can apply
- Your PhD must be in mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, statistics or engineering, and your proposal must draw on that quantitative background to address a biological question. You need at least 12 months and no more than 60 months of postdoctoral research experience at the letter-of-intent deadline, and at least one first-author publication that is published or in press. You must be based at a non-profit institution (501(c)(3) or equivalent) in the United States or Canada, so this is not open to applicants working elsewhere. Within that requirement there is no citizenship test: United States and Canadian citizens, permanent residents and temporary residents holding a valid visa are all eligible, though BWF will not intervene if a visa does not permit the full stay. You are not eligible if you hold or have accepted a tenure-track faculty appointment, verbally or in writing. Letters of intent are not accepted from federal facilities, except from eligible postdoctoral fellows at the NIH.
