Building toward affordable DNA sequencing, this study uses density functional theory to test MoS₂ and Janus MoSSe monolayers as sensors for the eight-letter Hachimoji DNA system. It maps how each base sits on the material, how charge transfers, and how the current–voltage signal changes after adsorption, finding good sensing performance and high sensitivity for certain bases. The results help guide the design of 2D-material platforms for sequencing.
