Building toward affordable DNA sequencing, this study uses density functional theory to test MoS₂ and Janus MoSSe monolayers as sensors for the eight-letter Hachimoji DNA system. It maps how each base sits on the material, how charge transfers, and how the current–voltage signal changes after adsorption — finding good sensing performance and high sensitivity for certain bases. The results help guide the design of 2D-material platforms for sequencing.
